The Feng Shui For The Bed Chamber

Introduction

As it is Feng Shui's mission to harmonize the chi in the home with its occupants, it is very important to metaphorically see your house as your second body. How you treat this second body has a very real impact on your physical body and the events that occur in your life. The chi of your environment possesses an organic relationship with your own chi, continuously affecting, conditioning and creating each other.

The foundational Feng Shui concept of the sacred octagon, or Ba-Gua is used as a guide to perform Feng Shui cures in specific physical areas. Its powerful system originated from the oldest and most profound methods of reading energy patterns, the I Ching. The Ba-Gua helps you to discover which parts of your environment affects which area of your life. You will receive the most benefits from Feng Shui when all of the Guas of your home and workplace are strong and balanced.

Sensing the Space

On entering your bed chamber, begin to pay attention to what you sense and you how you feel when you walk into the room. Does it feel the same at different times of the day? Look at your room, as if it was the first time. If it is difficult for you to be objective, ask a friend to make observations for you. Is it bright, dull, fresh, stagnant, stark, inviting, clean or cluttered? Note the first impressions that come into your mind. Also note if there has been something you have wanted to change but haven't done. Think about what you would like to see in your bed chamber and how you would like to feel as your enter the room. Note this information as well.

General Feng Shui for the Bed Chamber

•  Remove clutter, excess clothes, books, papers etc. Don't just remove it to another room, get rid of it from your home.

•  Storing things under the bed can be a recipe for hidden obstacles in your relationship. As you clean out from under your bed visualize old problems clearing away and new energy nourishing your relationship.

•  To build self esteem and ensure a solid foundation for your life and relationship, move your bed to the most commanding position in the bed chamber. This would be with the widest view possible of the room and as far as possible from the door. Visualize these attributes manifesting in your life as you place the bed.

•  To ensure a strong feeling of reassurance and safety make sure you can see the door when you are lying on your back on the bed. Do not place the end of your bed directly inline with the door. In Chinese custom this is called the death position. Relatives place their deceased in this Yin position prior to the funeral. A custom excellent for the dead but not beneficial for the living.

•  To avoid bad dreams or insomnia make sure to place the bed against a wall, preferable a solid wall and not under a window as the flow of energy over your bed will make you feel unsafe and unsure of things in your life. If there is a window then use a blind or heavy drape to solidify the wall.

•  Add more support into your relationship by attaching a headboard to your bed. If your present headboard is loose, fix it to prevent insecurities in your life. Replace a headboard with bars as it can give you a subconscious feeling of being imprisoned. A bookcase headboard filled with books and containing a mirror can create an energy that will not be conducive to turning off the mind and relaxing when you are in the bed. Make sure your footboard does not extend over the mattress as your career and life path progress may be hampered.

•  While doing any of the cures mentioned always visualize the end result of what you are trying to create in your relationship.

•  To make a new start in your relationship, get a new bed, as good of quality as you can afford. A bed is a powerful symbol for fresh opportunities for the inner and outer realms of your life. For maximum benefit, replace your bed when you move or when a major relationship ends in your life. Avoid second hand beds as they carry chi from previous owners.

•  Do not place the element of water in your bedroom, in the form of fountains or pictures as its presence represents a loss of money or a loss of relationship. Mirrors also represent flowing water and are not a good idea to place in the bedroom. If you have one, angle it to face a door rather than the bed itself and if it does face the bed cover it with a piece of fabric at night. A mirror facing a bed is often cause of a happy relationship gone sour, sometimes by the entrance of one or more outside parties coming into the relationship.

•  A split base of a king size bed contributes to a divisive influence in your relationship. Remedy this and create more unity by buying a queen size bed (the Chinese believe your relationship will be more intimate if you sleep closer together) or by using the healing power of red to mend the split. Place a red sheet over the split box spring and under the top mattress. Visualize the fusing of the bed base and your relationship having a solid foundation.

•  Hang a chime or crystal in the middle of a bed chamber that is too small to create an expansion of chi.

•  If your bed is positioned under a beam, which symbolically splits the bed in two, either move the bed or tent the bed with fabric to solve the problem.

•  Always keep closet doors and bathroom doors closed in the bed chamber.

•  To move stagnant energy in your bed chamber, use a plant, huge tall candle sticks (always in twos) or electric bells to create chi movement. Chimes can be rung regularly with the intention of clearing and bringing in chi. The space can also be cleared using crystals.

•  Light this room with natural full spectrum lighting. Open the blinds and curtains on the windows and allow the sunlight to flow into the room. Open the windows and let fresh air flow in as often as you can.

•  If there is a ceiling fan in the room, paint a red dot on the top of each of the paddles to remove the cutting energy that it creates. If it hangs in the middle of your room, paint a yellow dot on the side not visible from the floor with the intent of bringing good health to yourself and/or your partner. Use the same method on a light fixture that is attached to your ceiling.

•  Buy furniture that has rounded edges to avoid negative energy being created in your bed chamber from sharp edges.

•  Create a bed chamber you love to be in. If you have a reading area, have cozy chairs to sit on. Sleep on the best quality sheets you can afford and when it comes to lovemaking create the most romantic ambiance that you can. Have a special place for all your ‘sensual items', close at hand, for the most spontaneous of moments!

Colors for the Bed Chamber

The bed chamber is a Yin area and should be a place of peace and tranquility. The most recommended Feng Shui colors for this room are lighter tones or shades of green and blue. Sage green is an excellent color choice for relaxing. These colors help to create healing and balance. One wall can be done somewhat darker as a feature, but on the whole avoid dark shades of these colors as they can lead to introversion or depression. When painting use a flat or semi-gloss paint as they are more calming than a high gloss finish.

Because of the Yang quality to the color red, it should only be used as an accent in the room if you wish to fire up your love life, or the Fame Gua of your bed chamber.

To bring more love energy into your bed chamber, another wall color to consider would be pink. Again, to empower these cures fully, remember to visualize peace, harmony, balance or a revved up love life (if that's what your intention is!) as you decorate this room.

The Bed Chamber Location

•  A bed chamber located behind the midline of the house, which is often quieter and has less social activity, will create a household of peace, a strong relationship and auspicious wealth.

•  It is best also if this room is the largest bedroom in the house and is as far away from the Mouth of Chi (the main front door) as possible.

•  To cure a bed chamber located above a garage of chaotic and disruptive energy coming from vehicles going in and out, hang a crystal ball from a red ribbon over each car in the garage.

•  More complex situations involving active streets or driveways pointed directly at your bed chamber require the use of Ba-Gua mirrors hung in specific places on the exterior of the home or bedroom to deflect the effect of negative energy flowing into the home.

The Ba-Gua in the Bed Chamber

As you enter your bed chamber, align the Career/Life Path section of the Ba-Gua with the doorway. If your doorway is in the middle of the room, this will establish the Career/Life Path Gua as your starting point. If the door enters on the Right of the room, your will be entering through the Helpful People/Travel Gua, if it opens into the Left, you will be standing in the Skills & Knowledge/Wisdom Gua. Once you have established your beginning Gua, you can continue to move around the room to determine the remaining eight.

Intention

Intention is a powerful aspect that should not be ignored in the practice of Feng Shui. By taking the time to identify and write our intentions we are encouraging the flow of chi in our lives that in turn will assist them in manifesting.

Now it is time to refer back to the information you gathered about your bed chamber and begin to formulate nine different intentions for each Gua. Using colored construction paper, select the color paper that corresponds with each of the nine Guas and write out your intention as simply or as detailed as you want. Remember these are only for your eyes to see. When you are done, hide them in each of the nine areas, taking time to think about your intention as you set them in place.

Feng Shui Items in the Bed Chamber

Depending on how simply you like to decorate your bed chamber will determine how many Feng Shui items you may want in the nine Guas of this room. For instance your remedy for optimal health in your Health Gua could be as simple as painting a yellow dot on the inside of your light fixture in the center of the room. You could also place a yellow paper between your mattresses with the intention of healing a health issue for you or your partner.

In regards to objects, there are many items that can be used to bring about Feng Shui changes in your life. You may have existing things attached with special meanings you've collected already that can be placed in the appropriate Gua to power your intention.

The practice of Feng Shui teaches that certain items, animals, birds, symbols etc. made from specific substances will activate chi more powerfully in your life. On our site we have chosen specific items and present to you ideas of how you can use them to create what it is you are intending to create or change in your life. The headings representing ‘The Twelve Stages of Relationship' will enable you to explore the various stages specific to where you feel you are at this time. Take time to browse and come back often as we change our stock, featured items, add more information and wind our erotic tales.
